Developed prior to Prohibition, Deer Brand pours a light golden straw color. This full-flavored, grain-forward American lager is a testament to over a century and a half of brewing history. With a kiss of floral hops, mineral notes, and the signature yeast strain, this oldie but goodie has a one-of-a-kind finish, making it a Midwest favorite!

Behind
the brew

Deer Brand was developed before Prohibition, but where did it get its name? Our founder, August Schell, was a forester before immigrating to the United States, dedicated to conserving and sustaining forest resources. His deep fondness for animals followed him to New Ulm, where, after establishing the brewery, he built a deer park beside the family mansion to keep his favorite four-legged friends close.

August's favorite animal still graces our bottle caps, packaging, logos, and especially every Deer Brand label. His love for wildlife continues to be honored today—our deer park still houses deer, and the brewery supports animal and conservation charities. That legacy even extends to the peacocks rescued in the 1970s, who still roam the brewery grounds to this day.
