Behind
the brew

Oktoberfest originated in 1810 as a royal wedding celebration in Munich, Germany, and has since grown into one of the world’s largest and most beloved cultural events. A true symbol of Bavarian tradition and hospitality, it now attracts millions of visitors to Munich each September.

In its early days, horse races were the main attraction, but over time, beer became the star of the festival. The Oktoberfest style traces back to the early 19th century, evolving from dark Dunkel styles to the traditional Märzen Festbiers enjoyed today. Traditionally brewed in March and stored through the summer months, these beers are malt-forward, golden-copper lagers with a smooth, sessionable strength—perfect for celebration.

Oktoberfest is more than a festival, it’s a joyful gathering of community and culture, where people come together to share good times, make new friends, and embrace Bavarian tradition. Schell’s Oktoberfest (celebrated on the second weekend in October each year) captures that same spirit, bringing people together to experience our brewery, our town, and the heritage that connects us all.
